South Jordan was originally settled by two pioneers named Alexander and Catherine Lince Beckstead. Arriving in the area with very little, they carved their first home out of the side of a hill. As the settlers were depending on the land for their living, irrigation was a major concern. As such, the Beckstead Ditch was dug. This served as a means to irrigate crops and was used later as a mill race for the White Faun Flour Mill. This historic landmark still exists in South Jordan.
With time and development South Jordan has grown into a thriving and diverse community. The population has grown steadily since the early 1960's, and currently stands in excess of 47,000 residents. South Jordan real estate features the best of the natural world that Utah has to offer. Great steps have been taken by the town to retain this natural beauty; the South Jordan Riverway Wildlife Enhancement Project was launched with just this ideal.
Only 20 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City, South Jordan hosts a wealth of job opportunities. This quality is only bolstered by the economic integration with Provo and Orem, a short 25 miles south. This central location to Utah's major economic centers has ensured South Jordan a firm place in the state's future.

The South Jordan homes market is hot, with new development housing projects starting all the time. The city is attractive because of Salt Lake County's natural beauty, and because the city of South Jordan is working to protect that pristine quality.
